Become a yellow shirt today

Every Orientation the WSU recruits some student volunteers to help with events and activities. We call them the WSU Yellow Shirts. Given the challenges we are facing with this Disorientation week we haven’t really needed as big a group of volunteers. It only takes one or two people to stand there and make sure Guy Williams always has a drink in his hand other than that we pretty much have it all covered.

Instead, we wanted to use our time to do something good in the world. This week we started plans to soft launch a new programme called the WSU Kai Cupboard. Managed by both our Operations and Support teams the Kai Cupboard will supplement but not replace WSU food packs and hardship cases. It is there for people who are immediately hungry or just short on money that day and need a snack to get them through the day.

WHILE WE WILL BE WORKING TO GET A LOT OF THE FOOD SOURCED OR FREE FROM OUR FRIENDS AT PLACES LIKE PAKNSAVE OR UNIMART THE REALITY IS THAT ONLY REALLY COVERS THE SNACK FOODS.

SO THIS DISORIENTATION WE ARE LAUNCHING A PROJECT TO CREATE THE YELLOW SHIRT COMMUNITY GARDEN. WE WILL BE OUT THERE WEEDING, CULTIVATING SOIL AND PUTTING THINGS IN PLANTER BOXES WITH RECYCLED BOTTLE WATERING SYSTEMS ON THE WALL.

AND WE COULD USE A HAND.

SIGN UP BELOW TO VOLUNTEER IN THE YELLOW SHIRT COMMUNITY GARDEN, OR IN OUR EVENING SAFETY ZONES IN TOWN AND WE MAY EVEN LET YOU KEEP THE YELLOW SHIRT.
